What's Your Kryptonite?

heroes/villains Every super hero has a weakness.  Superman has kryptonite.  The Hulk can destroy and be destroyed by his anger.  Batman can't save Gotham City until he gets over his fear.  Iron man's heart is what makes the suit work and is also killing Tony Stark.  Every super hero has their own weaknesses and their enemies attack them where they are vulnerable.  Lex Luthor attacks Superman with kryptonite, he doesn't try to make him afraid.  Tony Stark's life isn't at risk because his archnemesis shows up with some Kryptonite.

The Enemy Attacks Your Weakness

Each of us have our own vulnerabilities.  Because of the way that we are put together, the devil knows that in order to destroy your soul he needs to attack you where you are vulnerable.  If you don't struggle with pride, he's not going to tempt you by trying to get you to have a puffed up ego.  If you struggle with greed, he's not going to tempt you by trying to get you to react in anger.  The devil knows that we are each created uniquely with our personalities, our own gifts, and this also means we have our own tendenancies when it comes to our temptations.  The devil comes ready for battle and he's going to go after your kryptonite.  He's going to go after the things that are uniquely connect to who you are and use those against you.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." - Ephesians 6:12-13

Your Weakness is Directly Connected to Your Strengths

Superman is superman because of the power he derives from radiation, but he also gets attacked because he's succeptible to the radiation of his home planet Krypton.  The hulk is the Incredible Hulk because of the righteous anger that he uses to fight against evil, but unchecked his anger will kill him.  The heart that keeps Iron Man powerful is the same heart that is destroying the man inside the suit.  The weaknesses of every super hero and in turn the vulnerabilities that their enemy attacks are intimately connected to who they are.

There is a reason why you have certain struggles that are continually attacked by the devil.  Because that's where he knows he can get you.  In the book Signature Sins, Michael Mangis lists out several sets of sins that are directly connected to personalities.  Are you an artist?  The enemy of an artist in envy.  Are you an enthusiast, always seeking happiness?  The enemy of the enthusiast is gluttony; not just food but the over-abundance of anything.  Are you a leader?  The enemy of the leader is a lust for more.  The temptations that the devil uses to attack you are intimately connected to the strengths that have been wired into you.  You are created for incredible things, but because of our sin natures we each have our own kryptonite.  We have our kryptonite that will continually knock us down.  Our kryptonite that continually leads us to choose flesh over the savior.  Our kryptonite that will cause us to even question our relationship with God.
