Get To Know Me Better

There are a variety of ways that people may come to start following this blog and one of the things I want to do in addition to writing great content is also to allow you guys to get to know me personally a little better. Because of that I've spent some time working on the "About" page on this blog. Check it out and let me know what you think. I'll constantly be trying to improve it to better reflect who I am, what this blog is about, and some of the important posts that I feel accurately represent the content that I'm writing.

The Grand Canyon

canyon22.jpg

This week I had my first chance to experience the incredible Grand Canyon.  It is unbelievable how big the canyons are; it seems as though it never ends.  I can't imagine what it was like when people first discovered it. As we walked the trails around the Grand Canyon and overlooked the rim, I couldn't help but think of how this fit into the creation story; pictures can't do justice to how big it is. Obviously the signs around the canyon spoke of the millions of years of erosion, but I found it quite interesting that many believe the Grand Canyon was formed during Noah's flood.

Bathroom Projects Are A Lot of Work

If you ever wondered if remodeling a bathroom is a lot of work, the answer is yes.  The past couple of weeks have been spent demolishing our old bathroom, working on things that are way outside of my expertise, dodging falling ceramic tiles, and putting the final touches on our new bathroom.

We are at the home-stretch and should be done before we leave for vacation next week. This all being said, a butt-load of bathroom work is my explanation for the lack of writing the past couple of weeks. Thank God I have some great friends that have been able to help me with my bathroom.

It Feels Like Football

Of all the things that happened and were exciting throughout my years of high school, the one thing year in and year out that I miss is high school football.  There is something about padding up day in and day out and going out on the field to get ready for game day.  Every fall as the football seasons begin and I talk to students about the starts of their seasons, I can't help but think about the memories I have of playing high school football.

And what's greatest about all these memories is that playing football was not ever just about winning games, although that was an important part of it.  Because so much of football is centered on a lot of work in preparation for a relatively small number of games, it takes very little effort to replay plays and games and scenarios in my mind.  I remember the teams we played against and prepared for, I remember getting yelled at that I need to be louder when I'm calling out my cadence, and I remember walking onto a pre-season passing league during my freshmen year having no idea what I'm doing and telling the coach I wanted to be a quarterback.

Football taught so many lessons.  I was challenged to learn how to perservere when coaches didn't do what I thought was best, I learned more about what it takes to be a leader, I was challenged to put my team first, and I was pushed to keep going even when my body didn't want to.  And to this day, every time I hear "The Doxology" I think about being on a knee with my team in the end zone worshipping after our games, win or lose.

First Time at the Big House

I had my first ever experience at the big house on Saturday.  I've been a huge football fan, played football in high school, and even coached last year.  I finally was able to experience the greatness of a live U of M football game and it was incredible!

A Venture into the Blogosphere

photo-e1280371447951.jpg

I've thought about blogging for a while now; I've struggled with the idea of why I'd do something like that, wondered if I'm arrogant to think that anyone would care what I have to think, and ultimately put my reservations aside and decided to go for it.  Since I have spent a lot of time trying to decide if I would blog, I figured I should share my thoughts going into it. What I'm Not Doing

I'm leery of people who are in ministry and blogging with a motive to make a name for themselves.  Unless it's purely for the purpose of helping a company increase it's web presence, it seems silly for someone to try to become a famous internet personality.  Perhaps having a personal domain and blogging may make this blog seem like some sort of self-promotional tool, but I'm hoping that my blog will be something other than building a list of subscribers or getting people to click on ads (I have other places for that).  I'm really perfectly content with the way things are and want to write more.

What I'm Doing

What I want this blog to be about is a place for me to think out loud. I like to write and this can be a way I can write about ministry, life, technology, and anything else that inspires me.  I like to browse the web and share what I find.  I like to share what's going on in my ministry and I like to write about things that I care about.  So this is my place that I can do that and hopefully in time it can also become a place where I can converse with others about these things.

In addition to starting my own blog, I'm also hoping to find ways to contribute to other blogging communities whether it be posting comments or even doing guest posts at places like the 8Bit network.
